Punkin's Spice Litter

October 1, Birthday!

Punkin’s babies have arrived! She has 4 beautiful little girls–punkin spice and everything nice! All of them are very dark but there is a lot of red showing through those coats. They all started at close to the same weight–4-5 oz. Mama Punkin is taking good care of them and they’re eating well.

The girls are really growing–all of them have doubled their birth weight this week! Punkin is such a good Mama and is very attentive to them. They have beautiful glossy coats and she keeps them spotlessly clean. Three of the girls are showing more of their red and have a lot of white markings. The little girl that is the darkest has tan and white socks–so sweet! We’ve decided to call them Cinnamon, Clove, Ginger and (Nut)Meg.

We can see eyes! All of them are just starting to open their eyes in the last couple of days. Their colors are lightening up now, so we’re seeing a lot more red in 3 of them. The little girl who is mostly black has the cutest little red and white feet, and little tan eyebrows. They’re all sweet as can be and are so used to being snuggled that they settle right in and go to sleep when we pick them up. They’re still happiest with their Mama, or sleeping in a pile with their sisters. They’re nursing 100%–Mama Punkin is eating 6 meals a day to keep up with them! They’re all about a pound now–that’s a lot of weight to gain in 2 weeks!

The puppies are growing and growing! They’re much more alert now, and creeping around, exploring their little world. Still nursing 100%. Their coats are changing, getting lighter. Lots of red, tan, black and white. The last picture is of Clove–she’s got lots of pretty colors on her feet and face as a perfect complement to her black coat.

Puppies are getting bigger, stronger and starting to play with each other now! They’ve just started being able to lap some food, but are mostly still nursing. They love to snuggle with each other and with humans (who take every opportunity to snuggle them!) We hear tiny barks and growls now, and they toddle around their exer-pen exploring. They still spend a lot of time sleeping all together in a heap.

Puppies are up and running now! They are playing, wrestling and climbing all over each other. They eat a lot of food now, but still nurse a couple of times per day. Mama Punkin is set on weaning them now! Personalities are starting to show through. We’re taking them to different areas of the house to play now–and outside if it’s not too cold!

Time to add a some action shots! The girlies were still sleepy, waking up from a nap when I took this. They spend their time sleeping, eating their puppy food, playing with their toys, and lots of wrestling with each other. We’re getting them used to more people and places gradually. They still love their Mama, but their mostly apart now for weaning. She takes the lead in weaning and growls at them when they try to nurse, but otherwise she loves to play with them!

The weather was nice enough for an outside adventure, and fun was had by all! Chasing leaves, discovering dried flowers, pouncing on things and chasing sisters were some of the favorite activities. The puppies are completely weaned now, but they love to play with their Mama. She continues to teach them how to be good puppies.
